Start by searching on Google, like animal shelters or hospitals, or something very specific, and email them letting them know you’re interested. Usually they’re more than happy to give you all the information you need!

While 2018 was the absolute worst year in several aspects, the only thing that truly felt worthwhile was volunteering. I volunteered 300 hours assisting folks who have HIV/AIDS and provided them with information and locating help, and on a Trans Hotline, helping them get through their lunch break to talking them into options other than suicide. Some days were rough going through my own issues but knowing I was helping others is what helped me as well. I’ve been volunteering since I was 14 and I couldn’t imagine not helping others as long as I’m able to.
